What’s the good being done here?

This rubs me the wrong way. It seems like another group of white men telling me what’s best for me.

“One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving you.”

No thanks. I didn’t ask to be “saved” from a website I voluntarily visit.

Also no. Their privacy settings are terrible, sure, but it’s not rape or molestation. And YOU aren’t giving Facebook users a choice either. Anonymous is essentially saying, “Here’s what’s going to happen, you have no say in the matter, it’s for your own good, you’ll thank us one day.” Actually, I have the choice to use Facebook or not, and you’re taking that away from me.

Yes, Facebook is terrible. But so is telling people “what’s best for them” and taking control of a social media hub that many people use just to keep in touch with family and friends.

If you want to hack Facebook and change the privacy settings or make it possible to delete your profile and personal data, go right ahead. But don’t delete a whole site used by millions of people and pretend you’re doing them a favor.
