The story is too long to write out verbatim, so I’ll summarize parts of it. Things in bold are actual direct quotes from the book.

(page 143) A young woman comes into the clinic and is jumpy and nervous. Dr. Wicklund said the woman flinched when she closed the door. She recognized the fear and asked if she’d gone for a pregnancy test somewhere else. Yes, she had. A ‘crisis pregnancy center’ that had an ad in the news paper offering abortion resources.

“I thought I’d be able to get an abortion there,” she admits. “They looked like nurses and doctors with their white coats. They told me they were giving me a pregnancy test and put me in a room for two hours. There was a television playing an awful video in there. I couldn’t leave.”

The patient goes on to tell Dr. Wicklund that the CPC employees informed her that:

• There was a good chance she would probably bleed to death from having an abortion
• The person who performs abortions isn’t a “real” doctor and could easily kill her
• She could get AIDS from other patients there
• Doctors use knives and scissors to perform abortions
• They cut up babies and throw them in the garbage

The patient heard all of this — all of these blatant lies — and she still sought out an abortion. That’s the hard truth that pro-lifers refuse to recognize: uterus owners who want to end a pregnancy will end their pregnancy. All of your fake clinics and “waiting periods” and “parental consent laws” don’t do shit when a woman wants to end a pregnancy.
