Well, I applaud Darlene for her responses. Just because you have a job now doesn’t mean you’ll be employed forever. Love the peeps invoking the Republican Mythical Stereotype of the lazy welfare-check-cashing poors who refuse to look for work. Never mind that that phenomenon (it’s rare, but it does happen that people abuse the system) would be eliminated if we had better oversight for welfare programs. That would cost money, which would mean higher taxes, which is UNAMERICAN!!!
Also, we already pay for undocumented immigrants AND non-working uninsured people to get healthcare. Our insurance premiums are jacked up by the costs the hospital incurs when it treats an injured or sick person who can’t pay for it. If everyone were insured, costs would go down across the board, like they have in every country where there’s socialized health care.
