danielmcbatman replied to your post: OK OBVIOUSLY I AM NOT SUGGESTING THINGS ARE ALL-AROUND BETTER IN NORTH KOREA THAN IN AMERICA
America doesn’t say it, but every pregnant woman I’ve ever known has been given paid maternity leave. Loads of it. It might not be mandatory here, but most employers are pretty goddamn decent

Really? Because I’ve heard from loads of mothers who get the bare minimum federally mandated unpaid leave, and that’s it. And of course, nothing for moms who were working part-time. Did you see the post earlier about mandated paid leave in other countries? America and Australia are the only ones with ZERO.
Moms: did you get loads of paid leave from your generous employer?

The list of benefits from around the world actually minimizes how much parental leave parents get. ie,in Germany it’s way more than 14 weeks.

Asked my mom and she said she had 12 weeks of “family leave” that could cover maternity/paternity/family death/etc. (Fully paid. )

If I’d been with the company for a year, I would have gotten paid maternity leave for 6 weeks, but I haven’t so I’m on unpaid personal leave.

My company offers 3 months paid maternity leave but you also have the option to take 3 months of vacation to make it a total six months.

I don’t know a single mom who had paid maternity leave. I used my own leave that I earned normally to cover the 12 weeks (FMLA, thanks)

I got 11 weeks unpaid and phone calls asking when I was going to be back starting at week 6 (and every time I told them I was taking my full 12). They treated me like like I was off at some spa retreat when I returned, really rude.

I got 12 weeks off unpaid, and 6 weeks of disability pay in 2003. Now in NJ you also get up to 6 weeks paid leave to take care of a newborn.

I’m Irish and if there was no Maternity Leave, or if there was no obligation there’d be uproar. It’s seen here as basic in modern countries.
