America doesn’t say it, but every pregnant woman I’ve ever known has been given paid maternity leave. Loads of it. It might not be mandatory here, but most employers are pretty goddamn decent

Really? Because I’ve heard from loads of mothers who get the bare minimum federally mandated unpaid leave, and that’s it. And of course, nothing for moms who were working part-time. Did you see the post earlier about mandated paid leave in other countries? America and Australia are the only ones with ZERO.

  19. truejerseygirl answered: I got 12 weeks off unpaid, and 6 weeks of disability pay in 2003. Now in NJ you also get up to 6 weeks paid leave to take care of a newborn.
  20. ihateyouallequally answered: I’m Irish and if there was no Maternity Leave, or if there was no obligation there’d be uproar. It’s seen here as basic in modern countries.
